June is Pride month.
"Homo Nest Raided, Queen Bees Are Stinging Mad".....headline...The New York Daily News, July 6, 1969..'
'homo's or queens'....meant to be derogatory that pretty much sums up what people thought of the Gay community back in the 60's.
oddly enough the actual date in 1969 was June 28th...which happens to be alyssa's birthday....
"She sat there with her legs crossed, the lashes of her mascara-coated eyes beating like the wings of a hummingbird. She was angry. She was so upset she hadn't bothered to shave. A day old stubble was beginning to push through the pancake makeup. She was a he. A queen of Christopher Street.'
'Last weekend the queens had turned commandos and stood bra strap to bra strap against an invasion of the helmeted Tactical Patrol Force. The elite police squad had shut down one of their private gay clubs, the Stonewall Inn at 57 Christopher St., in the heart of a three-block homosexual community in Greenwich Village. Queen Power reared its bleached blonde head in revolt. New York City experienced its first homosexual riot.'
"We may have lost the battle, sweets, but the war is far from over," lisped an unofficial lady-in-waiting from the court of the Queens. "We've had all we can take from the Gestapo," the spokesman, or spokeswoman, continued. "We're putting our foot down once and for all." The foot wore a spiked heel. According to reports, the Stonewall Inn....
editors note: based on the law of averages there was a pretty good chance some of the police involved likely were gay.
the Village Voice publication emerged as a leading advocate for Gay rights...in the years/decades following it recieved numerous accolades and awards for journalism....
the weekend long protest was called 'the Stonewall riots'...it was the flashpoint for igniting the Gay rights movement in America.
today it is a New York state sanctioned historical site....
do they look menacing?...are they some kind of threat to society?...
....
above is a outstanding 2020 documentary tracing the history of the Gay movement on television and movies and how media 'visibility' acting as an educational tool continues to breakdown barriers leading to greater acceptance.
back in the day a lawyer friend told me a story of how he was in court and a crusty Irish judge turned to a gay man and said ...'you and your people have ruined a perfectly good word.' he was speaking about the word 'Gay'. personally i think it was a brilliant PR coup i'm not sure who thought it up yet the word Gay conveys a sense of 'Joie de vivre' for a commuinity that has a past history of being persecuted...
so we have witnessed an evolution from the 60's Stonewall riot days....whether called transvesties....fairies ...crossdressers....fags...the one constant that continues to the present day... was the t-girls just kept getting prettier in their feminine expression...
there has also been a parallel constant...we have witnessed the impact of the Dominatrix, Mistress an amatuer alpha-Female evolve from the 60's onward....
straight or gay?... i was thinking the other day of how for years i clinged to the word 'straight'...choosing to live in denial rather than accept what i was. the fact is for as long as i can remember i felt the pull of my inner-femininity...
do straight males shave their legs and underarms and keep their body smooth while using skin softening lotion as part of a feminine grooming regimen? do i even need to say 'no they don't'.
it took a Dominatrix, Mistress DarkLady Camille for me to recognize and acknowledge what i already knew....i belong as a member of the LGBTQ community...peace, alyssa
